The Power of Music

Who doesn’t like to hear their favorite tune on the radio? Who doesn’t enjoy singing the one hymn they’ve loved since they got saved? I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t love and appreciate music in some way, shape or form. Ever wonder why?

Music is a spiritual medium. By that I mean when we hear music, it stirs us in different ways and it makes us think certain thoughts. If you play a rock song, with electric guitars screeching and drums pounding, your mind immediately thinks of rebellion and all kinds of carnality, and you behave accordingly. If you hear a hymn like “Christ Returneth,” it makes you think of the Rapture and the coming millennial reign of Christ on earth, and you behave accordingly. From rap to island tribal drum beats, music has the tremendous power to move us and to behave according to the music being heard.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. 2 Chronicles 20:21 KJB

God Almighty moves in the power of music. He dwells in our praises. In other words, God loves to hear His people sing and shout, bringing glory unto His Name. He moves mightily when people pray in Jesus’ Name and sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. This is God’s command to us! He WANTS to dwell in our praises, and answer our prayers!

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 KJB

By the way, the Devil, before he was cast out of Heaven and called Lucifer, was the most powerful cherub, covering the throne of God, and God’s song-leader. He had pipes and tabrets built into his body when he was created (Ezekiel 28:13) and he was the most beautiful and mightiest creation of God. His very movement issued forth song. However, since his downfall because of his great pride, his beautiful music with which he led Heaven’s choirs are now no more than off key, screaming rantings and railings. Don’t let the satanists tell you otherwise. Heaven’s former Choirmaster is doomed to eternal ruin, and he knows it.

One last thought… Music, though powerful in and of itself, cannot get you saved. The CCM crowd (Christian Contemporary Music) has a large following, and the artists themselves like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith present that one can be born again when they hear their fleshly, carnal music. Before I matured in Christ, I thought this as well, since music moves the senses and puts you on a certain high of sorts, but then I read here in Bro. David Stewart’s website that CCM is really a counterfeit way the Devil thought up to make people believe they’re saved but they’re really not. CCM artists teach the Lordship Salvation heresy, which is what is spiritually killing our churches today. We are born again ONLY by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST IN HIS DEATH, BURIAL AND RESURRECTION (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4). See this important article:

CCM’S FALSE GOSPEL

Praise Him!

I have so much to be thankful for. Just waking up in the morning is a miracle, because I know it was God Who allowed it. How can I refrain from praising the Lord, when He dwells in our praises?

There are so many reasons to praise His Name, some of which are physical needs that are met, but also there are spiritual reasons, like I’m saved and going to Heaven when I die. Sure, anybody can praise God and be joyful over being financially secure, for example, but how many are able to praise the Lord for being poor and having next to nothing? That takes a certain mindset, one that is not affected by the pleasures of life.

One needs to remember that it is not by the power of our hand that we are blessed by material things, it is in fact God Almighty Who permits us to attain these blessings. He is the One from Whom all good things come, but He also allows the Devil to chasten us if we stray from His will. I’m speaking from a Christian standpoint; if you are not born again then you need to know how to be saved in order for you to become His child, so you may understand.

I am also thankful that the Lord allowed me to come back to writing here, because it is good for me to show forth his praises in writing. I know He is pleased when I, with His help, shake the cobwebs out of my brain and really desire to please Him. Sometimes it takes work, because in my flesh there dwelleth no good thing, but since I’m saved, I no longer have to serve sin. I’d rather serve God Almighty and give the Devil a good reason to flee than to mope about how inferior I am without the Lord.

So these are just a few reminders, basically, to think on things above. If you’re not saved, you need to get that right with Jesus. He did everything for you, and then some. Go to Him and ask Him to forgive you, and believe on His finished work at Calvary. You won’t regret it.

And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Psalm 27:6
